Subject: wood artifact restoration
     Last week I recovered a beautiful old 3 sheeve block from a fresh 
     water site.  Unfortunately, the wood has been heavily creosoted, and 
     STINKS.
     
     Normally, I'd soak old wood in alcohol, dry it thoroughly and then 
     seal it with Minwax oil finish.  But that creosote smell....
     
     Anyone have an idea?
