This past Saturday the WKPP organized and executed a major exploration dive into the B tunnel of Wakulla Springs. A large contingent of exploration divers, support divers, surface support crew and backup staff were present throughout the course of this operation. An effort of this magnitude requires a tremendous amount of involvement from the scientific and technical communities, broadcast media, cave exploration organizations and governmental agencies. WKPP events now regularly occur on a weekly basis and embrace a very wide ranging exploration and scientific agenda of which Wakulla Springs represents a small, but significant part. During the course of the weekend, the program at Wakulla Springs afforded an excellent opportunity for networking and overall camaraderie amongst anyone who is interested in cave exploration, hydrology and water source cartography, geology, wildlife biology, aquatic microbiology, North Florida aquatic ecology, equipment technology, archaelogy and paleontology, surface water management and improvement, publishing, media productions and diving education. The scope of WKPP projects continues to expand. By the end of 1996 WKPP expects to have at least a half dozen concurrent science and exploration projects progressing in various phases at a multiplicity of existing sites and interesting new sites throughout North Florida. Everyone, regardless of their experience level or background is invited and encouraged to participate. WKPP will soon have a website home page which will summarize its activities. For those participants from different certification backgrounds who wish to become involved in WKPP's diving agenda an excellent incremental training program is provided. Divers new to the WKPP are educated in its policies and procedures as well as its established and exacting safety and equipment standards. Everyone has an opportunity to participate up to their own comfort level within strict practice guidelines determined by the director. Above all, safety, science and results are the overriding objectives. The WKPP is totally dedicated to a team approach with respect to both its general operations and particularly during dive execution. Once again the WKPP would like to gratefully thank all of the many participants. Bill Mee
