A couple of other things about the dive at Wakulla on Saturday:
1) Dave Minors was on the first team that placed nine bottles and made
the call as to where we would dive (A or B).
2) Barry Miller ran the operation and did an incredible job of putting
a complicated dive together. He then worked with the film crew. Bob
McGuirrre did the same, after helping us move a ton of gear to the
water. Barry will have to comment on who did what, as I was preoccupied
with my own dive.
3) The run time to turn was 68 minutes, not the bottom time - it was
63-64 minutes (to thte turn) , as it took us 4-5 minutes to get into the cave
and switch to gas, at which time we start the bottom clock, This put us
back at the first deco stop at 99-100 minutes run time, or 95-96 bottom
time. I am more accutely aware of this during the dive as I always am
the survey guy, call the direction when there is a choice, and call the
dive based on knowing where we are and how long it will take to get out .
4) This gave us a slowdown, one minute stop series from 250, a flat
series from 190, and a more goemtric series from 120, as you would
expect the decay curve to look. Total deco was 8 1/2 hours - I was
thinking my timer rolled five times, it rolled six, so the total dive
was 630 minutes.
5) Despite what our detractors say, the only way to do this kind
of exposure in the water (no troughs for me) is to be in top physical
condiditon, which , much to the chargin of our detractors, is something
we enforce with our divers. This is why we do not get cold, tired, bent,
toxed, or experience any change in breathing rate during the course of
the exposure, and why I was able to go right back and dive again the
next morning (with the remaining gas in my 100's). - G
