Doug, the metal knobs dent when they hit something and then they will not turn off (or on). These are a no no. The correct config is the long hose on the right with the inflator. The backup reg goes on the left with the pressure guage. Any changes require everything else to be changed. The long hose is not long enough from the other port, the back up won't lay properly from the right port - the hose sticks way out and the reg won't be a fair lead to the mouth. Valve closure is an easy problem to solve - turn it back on. I know that sounds low tech, but if you can't operate your valves, get the right dry suit, or rerig your harness. One benefit of having the crossing hoses is that you can always hear a leak because three of them are crossing behind your head, and the third is high pressure, so is louder. You can hear the gas flowing if a reg is misbehaving as well. There are a lot of little things like this that we have worked out simply by virtue of the fact that the dives we do require a lot of thinking - take advantage of it. - G In looking at the last post I made on this, I mixed right with left - it is the left knob that gets turned off on the ceiling.
