I normally use a Viking or Nokia suit. I've used units with attached latex,
neoprene and dry hoods (what Viking calls the "Turbo" hood).
The latex hood seems to be the most versatile. I can easily get a 1/4 inch
neoprene hood under it. The neoprene hood should be made (or modified) for
use with dry suits. It can't have much of a skirt around the bottom and it
should have small holes in the top to let air escape.
It is hard to deny that the Turbo type hood is inherently warmer. Your neck
is nicely insulated against the cold. There is just not much room under the
thing to add a neoprene hood (which I find a necessity). The thin Henderson
"Polar Cap" full face mask does well here. For scuba this is the warmest
combo I've used. Unfortunately the Turbo hood get in the way when using a
helmet like the Superlite 27.
I know people who use dry suits with *no hood attached* and use the Polar Cap
under a 1/4 inch neoprene hood. It makes my neck hurt just to dive with them!

Humm... I haven't had any problems with the Polartec dive suits. I generally
use an XL under my Viking dry suit and DUI dive underwear. Although I have
used the Lg that I scuba with in the tropics. I find them less irritating
than polypro underwear. The unit I use is a Henderson.

Cheers- Rob

Question #1: have you used dry hoods as well? and, if not, are there any
good ways of that you know of doubling up hoods without ending up with a
lower jaw that feels like it's been "rubber-banded" to your upper jaw?

Question #2: The Polartec I tried--and ended up feeling like I was getting
brush burns on my knees and elbows. Any suggestions?
