Probably because big-time cave diving with a competent team of divers is often best done in such a way that buddies can be relied upon as backup. > Second, having dove twin 100's as independants I agree with Jason that > switching tanks just isn't that hard. Helium mix over one shoulder with a certain kind of 2nd stage (e.g. ODIN), EAN over the other shoulder with a very different sort of 2nd stage (e.g. ScubaPro). It doesn't take more than about 20 dives in shallow water to get this down so well that it's as natural as breathing - even for slow learners. > Third, just HOW MANY manifold have been damaged on a dive? This is a good question. Please note, I'm not taking sides on this debate (Jason makes more sense to me, but he and I are both hard-core solo diver types, so it makes sense that we're more inclined to see eye to eye). On my OC mixed gas rig a manifold would have been a VERY bad idea - one of the doubles contained trimix; the other EAN. > Finally, I must agree with Ken, this is a DIFFERENT debate than the > pony/SD issue. I'm not sure which would "bent" faster ;-) but from what I've seen, a blown burst disk can drain a tank VERY quickly. > There may be something I'm missing so I will gladly stand corrected > on anything I've said, but if anyone flames me - f**k you...
