actually... the end shattered as it imploded, you can see the cracks
around the peripheral of the end... the builder said it wasn't built
thick enough. he also told me not to take them past 330 :-) woops.

anyone out there had implosions close to you while under the water?
it wakes you up more than one way... gives you alot of respect for
the pressure.. as someone said (george i think) before, get your
calculator out and figure out the pressure.. you'll be surprised.

it was alot like the lava flow off the big island when we were looking
for that crashed helicoptor in '92. sometimes a large clump of lava would
break loose and the outer skin would cool in the water (due to the
tremendous heat on the surface where the lava entered there was a
outwelling, pulling the cold water up from the the bottom of the slope.
the slope was about 45 degrees down to 3500fsw.. pretty fucking cold
water so the outer skin would cool quickly), then as this ball of
lava would slide down the slope it was ok until it collided with
a rock or another such ball, but when they broke open and the cold
sea water hit that center of still hot lava... holy shit.. instant
explosion. while we were in the water (three to five dives a day for
eight days, down to 270fsw) one would explode about every four or five
minutes... we were very glad to get away from the flow in our search
patterns. but there is nothing like looking at the lava from about
four feet as it "burps"into the ocean... and the last two deco stops
were great... like a hot tub.

aloha,

dennis
