In order to offer addvice, I'll need some more information (ie., I'm going
diving next week, what type of exposure suit will I need). You see there are
several different sort of ascenders! There are simple ascenders, there are
locking ascenders, there are dual rope ascenders, there are even spring
loaded locking dual rope rescue ascender..... There is even somthing called
prusik (sp?) cord (Don't knock it, James Bond uses it) which is simply thin
kern mantle rope tied in a Prusik knot, which will slide one way but not the
other, along a thicker rope (talk about corosion resistant). I've used it to
self belay while climbing, and have had no problems.
As for 'how to rig them', climbing carabiners (sp?) are most likely
your best bet (ie., the holes on jumars are about the same size)
I hope this has been somwhat helfpful!
