In a message dated 95-11-19 10:16:12 EST, you write: >>it's almost as bad as not having a tender/captain on the boat... you guys >>are gonna get into trouble, you're gonna get bent or killed. >>for what!!! >> >>dennis pierce Why would you get bent because of solo diving ??? It is just a personnal choice and I believe that it is not more dangerous if you have redundancy and do not exceed your limits. Personnaly I feel better alone... To fly a plane you don't need a co-pilot when the weather is clear, I prefer to fly solo too. Solo diving in my opinion is fine if you know how and why you do it. Last summer I went to key West, just to see other creatures than cat fishes... I was assigned a buddy. I asked the guy if he was diving often, he said : " Oh yes, since my open water certification I dive every year (yes, once !) but I didn't make it last year...). A buddy is fine only if you don't have to be concerned about him, and he should not be concerned about you, except if he is your instructor. As Bill W. said, when you don't know anybody in the area and want to dive you don't have the choice. So, if you see me solo diving, I would be glad to listen to any good suggestion to improve my safety, but don't bother giving me a lecture on the subject or telling me that I'm going to die, I heard that already a few times. Best regards, Gil. Gil.
