Out of curiousity we did a dive upstream Friedman's a week or so ago and the traverse to the head spring. The Park service said they had not been getting many cave divers at Manatee lately. I suppose this may be due to the past conditions. I had not made a dive in Manatee in more than three or four years prior to this dive when it was sometimes difficult to get access to Friedman's due to the number of dive teams. On this recent dive, we found the conditions to be quite good for Manatee. The level was down and so was the flow (a bit). The visability upstream Friedman's was OK (this is a dark cave anyways due to its minerology). Although the visability deteriorated noticeably around the downstream Chalky Bypass lead to the Sewer Pipe, it was still adequate down to the headspring. The lines seem to be in good shape and continuous. The conditions are certainly reduced from what it has been in the past, but it is still a great cave to dive. - Doug
