Hi gang,

Just a quick note to let you in on some exciting news for me. I had a chanc=
e=20
to dive (explore) in a new cenote today.=A0 My buddies and I laid in around=20=
700=20
to 900 feet of line in this our first dive. Hundreds if not thousands of=20
stalactites.=A0 Many of them were three to four feet long and only four to f=
ive=20
inches in diameter at their fattest. Really long, narrow and delicate. I'm=20
calling the cenote "Hatz Utz Aktun" which means "Pretty Cave" in Maya.=A0 It=
's=20
around five miles south of Tulum on some Ejido property about a quarter mile=
=20
in the jungle.=A0=A0 Lots of fun.

The cenote looks like a big puddle about 20 feet wide by 30 feet long. The=20
entrance is a minor restriction with some silt on the bottom, so the first=20
one in has good visibility, the second one in has a little visibility and th=
e=20
third one in (me, of course), goes in blind. But once in the cave, there ar=
e=20
some large, highly decorated rooms with numerous connecting passages. The=20
average depth was around 40 to 45 feet.

If you're going to be in the Tulum area and would like to know more, let me=20
know or better yet, contact Fernando Davila at ferdivetulum@pr*.ne*.mx* o=
r=20
check out the Dive Tulum dive shop web site at www.divetulum.com.mx

We're sure to make more dives into this system in the near future, so if=20
you'd like to do some cave exploring, let's hear from you.

Take care and dive safe, Scott
