We should be spending our time talking = about making the sport and our organization better. We should be = spending our time giving CDS members a better value for their dues. We = should be talking about how to educate the public on why the once = crystal clear Wakulla Springs is green the majority of the time from = nitrate pollution. We should be talking why the Falmouth-Cathedral = System is in the same condition. We SHOULD be working together to = address some of these issues together, as a united front, rather than = bickering over petty differences and events that are way past. If we = don't, it isn't going to matter much longer, because in 20 years our = springs will be cesspools from pollution and nitrate loading and barely = flowing because development and industry is sucking up the groundwater = and huge pipelines will be draining our rivers to carry water to South = Florida. The CDS Board is considering a request that the NSS review its = endorsement of the WKPP project status because we are tired of the = Director of the WKPP continually attacking our name and reputation. We = have no problem with the WKPP itself. It is indeed a worthwhile and = successful project. We would like to work with the WKPP to further our = mutual goals, but this is impossible with the constant attacks.=20 Wayne Marshall is gone. We have put in procedures to prevent a repeat of = that situation. Checks have to be signed by two Board Members, the = Treasurer and President, and must be written by the Administrative = Manager. We are now in the best financial shape we have been in years = and we have the resources to begin providing real benefits to cave = diving and our membership. We have gone beyond Wayne Marshall and George = needs to get over it as well. Steve Ormeroid did indeed offer to refinance Cow Springs. Our current = mortgage is at 10.25% interest and a balloon payment of $13,000 is due = in February 2002. Steve offered to refinance now at 5.9% or whatever the = minimum IRS-imputed interest rate is at the time of closing. Because = Steve is a Board Member, there is a conflict of interest, but Counsel = advised that the conflict was waivable by the Board. However, after much = discussion and soul-searching, the Board determined that the conflict of = interest was too great and voted not to accept the proposal. It's a dead = issue now.
