Tod, if they did not put the recommendation on the cavers list, then you are
being jerked around.

Thanks to all who replied with information about cave training.
So far, I've received nearly 30 replies recommending instructors from
various training organizations.
Oddly enough, several replies were from people who did not recommend the NSS
or NACD for cave training.

Everything I know about cave diving, I read in the NSS Cave Diving Manual.
The book seems well written and looks as if it has valuable information
about
cave diving. If there are other books from any other training agencies, I'd
like to read those too.

I own several hundred acres of land in west Tennesee. There are several
caves
on my property. Some I did not even know were there until a fellow from the
university called and asked if he could go caving.
He came and we went to several caves that he said should have gates and told
me about the NSS conservation policies for caves.
I joined the NSS because members of it helped protect my caves and the
creatures that live in them.
Since I have joined I have received a monthly publication called the NSS
news that has very interesting articles about caves and cave diving.
My brother and me have been going caving quite a bit lately and have found
several deep pools of water in cave on my property.
While I do not have all the training or equipment to dive these, I'd like to
have a look someday.
Cave diving just seems like something I'd like to do, I'm not really sure of
the reason, but I think I just want to see whats down there.

The NSS seems to have a good training program and they certainly have helped
protect my caves. I'm I wrong in being a member of the NSS?
Is there a better organization that protects both above and underwater
caves?

Thanks
