Hey George, nice to know you still think of me occasionally ;-) Nah, I have to say that staging scooter batteries is something I wouldn't try (or have even thought of for that matter). I 'm perfectly comfortable towing the backup or secondary push scooter just as you do and rely on it for redundancy. I have never needed (so far) more than two scooters on any given dive, and the caves I work on aren't large enough to get away with (or require) the amount of gear you guys carry. My primary scooter is 33amphr and serves me very well. Because we can't carry or do not need the massive amount of gear you guys do, I have yet to come close to it's maximum range on 6,000+ ft. penetration dives. The second scooter gets serious consideration past this, or when working a syphon. We spend plenty of time pushing them through bedding planes and restrictions and seldom have them hammer down for great lengths of time. When we survey these same caves, Lamar hands off his scooter(s) and he swims while working the compass/slate. They are typically too confining to need to hang on to that stuff while surveying. When he is done, he gets it back. Different needs entirely, just using what is necessary. Dell Motes Dive Rite 117 W.Washington St. Lake City, Florida 32055 www.dive-rite.com
