Have you ever noticed that even in a siltout, if there is water movement you can tell which way the water is moving because you can see the motion of the particles close to your mask? In the scenario you pose, you mention a restriction where there is likely to be increased flow. Ask yourself, do you think that knowing the direction of water flow is an important cue or not?
