Kevin, Is that the same instructor who is able to shut down your valves from 9 feet away? Or the one who makes fun of everything during deco? People should exercise OOA and mask off drills (and all the rest they learned) every once in a while. My first technical instructor made me do that every single dive, at least once. A pain in the butt (I didn't see too much of the reefs during class - I remember the shades of big critters), but pretty soon it became a piece of cake. I wouldn't put my strap underneath the hood, not only because of the water exchange (yuck, 5 deg C yesterday), but also because my hood is fairly tight (and doesn't let too much water in) - pretty difficult to position the strap properly. Furthermore, not even beginner fin kicks have been able to move my mask, and I don't think I'd hang myself with the long hose. However, if I ever came into an OOA situation like that, I would die of laughter because the picture of that buddy is just hilarious.
