Nevertheless, our support team did = an outstanding job and I'd like to thank each of them on behalf of the = dive teams. I'd also like to thank those team members who traveled from = Canada, Britain, California, and Colorado to help this past weekend. = I'd also like to thank BMA for their outstanding work and enthusiasm and = Bill Mills for some of the finest entertainment to hit Wakulla Beach in = a long time. Setup began at 10am Fri. morning with divers placing decompression gases = for the Fri. OC teams and Sat. RB teams. Friday setup allowed for a = relatively early start for the Sat. RB teams. David Lennon, Skip Mac, = Cathie Neel, Mark McCarty, Jerry Moore, Mark Garland, and Larry Ficker = handled setup while Heather ran things up top. I would like to commend = Heather on her professionalism and ability to get the job done as = surface manager this weekend. She handled both days with ease and was = ready to go 24 hrs if needed. Setup continued through the afternoon as = divers placed additional deco gas for Sat. and supported the returning = OC setup teams. OC Team 1 (Baxter, Gol, and Deschamps) moved drive bottles and scooters = out to 3500 for the RB setup team. See dive reports OC Team 2 (Hunsucker, Koritz, and McKinlay) ran drive scooters and = bottles out to 4500 for the RB exploration team. See dive reports Saturday operations began at 6am with the RB teams leaving the beach at = 9am and 10am. Planned bottom times were 180-240 minutes for the setup = team and 360-480 minutes for the exploration team. Huge thanks to our = in-water RB outfitters Mark Garland and Larry Ficker. Both RB teams = traveled to the 6000-8000ft area in A-tunnel only to find extremely poor = visibility and deteriorating conditions. Both teams decided to forego = further penetration and wait for better conditions in the coming weeks. = Despite returning to the basin 4-5 hours early, support and video teams = were ready on a moments notice and hit the water for an afternoon of = support and cleanup. The 4500 team was contacted and arrived on-site = ready to retrieve equipment waiting at 4500 and 3500. A 43 minute = roundtrip to 4500 was very impressive. Huge thanks to Terry Kortiz for = making back-to-back runs to 4500 on Fri and Sat. =20 RB Team 1 (Armantrout, Cole, and Rose), loaded down with gear, their = plan was to move drive bottles, safeties, and scooters for the primary = RB team set out to 8000ft, explore side leads, and retrieve a scooter = from the 4/1 dives. See dive reports RB Team 2 (Jablonski, Irvine) set out to explore side leads in the = 14,000 - 16,000ft section of O-Tunnel. See dive reports Day 2 OC Cleanup Team (Landon, Kortiz, and Werner) retrieved 2-42 amp/hr = scooters from 3500 and 4500 in 43 minutes.=20 Support and setup this weekend was first class with divers conducting = training dives at Indian Springs in the morning and working Wakulla = basin in the afternoon. New people on site deserve mention: Ed P, Alan = W, Claudia M, Mike K, Eric F, and Billy W. I would also like to = recognize Robert Carmichael and Steve Grasso from Halcyon for prepping = the deco rebreathers and on-site rebreather maintenance. Dave Sweetin, = Billy Baxter, Scott Hunsucker, Tamara Kendall, Mark Garland, etc. = deserve thanks for loading up gear for the RB guys Sat. night and = Heather for making sure everyone was packed up and site closed. If I forgot anyone I apologize but there are just too damn many of you = doing an outstanding job every weekend. At the moment, future dates are anyone's guess as we wait out the dark = water and hope the system clears out quickly.
