Bruce, Sometimes dictators are the answer, but not for the CDS. Now a strong democratically elected leader is another answer and we haven't seen that in a while. I don't really have a problem anymore. Yes, I can get pretty steamed about what went on as can other past editors, but that's not the issue. I mention the lack of support because it's instructive about how the CDS operates(ed)--by spasm. I also don't think it's useful to name names of past BOD members except perhaps where the embezzlement was concerned and Trey has done that. There are Board members and even chairmen who serve because they think that it's the right thing to do--to give back. I have always thought that if you are engaged in an activity that benefits you in some way, that you should try to give back something to the organization(s) that support that activity. I have done so imperfectly, but I did try. Most cave divers make no effort to do anything other than cave dive for their own pleasure, pride, ego, fun, whatever and that's fine--this isn't the UN. But my feeling is that where non-profit organizations are concerned, if you are a member and if you benefit from that organization then you should make at least the effort to be involved, to care about how the organization operates and how it represents you and if possible, you should volunteer. The problem with the CDS and perhaps to some extent the NACD is that there are BOD members and members who want to bend the organizations to their will and they want to control policy and assets themselves, not represent the interests of the membership at large. They can do that because the membership is, as one poster here put it, mostly only interested in diving and don't care what happens with the CDS and the NACD. Apathy is the real culprit here. But your point is well taken: >develop a clear picture so the members will have an >understanding of who not to vote for. I think that is something that could be done and should be done. Those ballots go out and no one outside of N FL really knows who is interested in really doing the job and really representing the interests of cave divers in general. The locals could just be voting in their drinking buddies. As time goes on I hope those online who KNOW will give everyone else a heads-up in this area. Later, JoeL
