Sadly, I can confirm this to be true. I have not had a good bagel since moving away from Brooklyn in 1993 and the New York "style" pizza in Miami is -- like most things down here -- all style and no substance. Grits fortunately have been largely driven underground by us transplanted Northerners who appreciate the finer things in life -- like *visibility* when we go wreck diving. When I get homesick for diving off of New York and New Jersey, I just take a marker and black out my mask. Best regards -- Bill
