The one and only time I tried to carry on canister batteries I was flying Continental round trip from Newark to Florida. The security inspector asked to see my bag, and fished through everything to find the batteries sitting in the bottom. She told me that I'd have to take them back "upstairs" - back to the ticket counter. I played dumb. Actually, it wasn't so much an act, since I really had no idea what she was trying to tell me! After she repeated her instructions a few times and got only "and?" from me in response, she relented. She wiped a little cloth thingy over the batteries and stuck the cloth into a machine. When the big green light came on, she told me I could move along. On the return trip, having packed exactly the same way, noone at security even batted an eye. -- Art Greenberg artg@ec*.ne*
