Scott: I have also seen bacterial clumps on recently installed gold line in Yucatan, both around Merida and Tulum. This gold line I believe came from the CDS. What is the origin of the line in Jackson Blue? When was it installed? Is the bacteria on all lines or only some? Is there any bacterial growth elsewhere in the cave? I have been corresponding with a cave microbiologist in Russia and was going to send him some samples to examine. My guess is that the gold line provides either nutrients or an especially good growth substrate. I wonder if the bacteria are coming from the line or from the cave? Are there any other reports of bacteria on cave line elsewhere? Tom Iliffe At 10:16 PM 2/12/00 -0600, you wrote: >Hello, > Is there anyone out there that is proficient in identifying cave >bacteria?
