Fellow cavers, I screwed up! I apologize for any discomfort I have caused any of you with my recent mailing regarding the 'longest' cave. I have been a dry caver for 12 years, and only recently became a 'wet' one. I haven't been involved long enough in the cave-diving world to understand all the nuances of the politics and in my enthusiasm I stepped on a lot of toes, I apologize. The decision to broadcast this report was solely mine. Absolutely no claim regarding records has been made by the explorers of the Ox Bel Ha cave system. My intent was not to downgrade the efforts of any explorers or exploration projects, in fact it was quite the opposite. I also understand that there must be great difficulty in exploring deep caves, especially when great distance from an opening is involved. The newly revived QRSS only hopes to act as a catalogue of Quintana Roo u/w cave survey data for those who wish to contribute, and will hold that information in confidence subject to the wishes of the contributing explorers/ surveyors. The QRSS (and I) will not be making any judgements regarding world records in the future or records of any kind. The QRSS hopes only to encourage explorers to develop more maps for cave divers to access and assist cooperative efforts between biologists and u/w cave explorers. I especially apologize to Dan, Jim and Gary who I inadvertently pulled in to this without any prior consultation. It was indeed a learning experience, I'm sorry. I promise I won't do it again. Regards and happy caving Hazel
