To whom it may concern: First of all lets make things clear here. My name is Jose Barba, not Barbi. I was one of the individuals who took the IEC course with Joe Odom, who in fact is the director/trainer for TDI. Next the important issue is to say thanks to Joe for conducting an excellent course and doing a great job at that! As I understand he asked Steve Gerard and German Yanez to be involved with the course. But weeks before Steve was planning to start a boycot against the course so both of them refused to assist Joe. Also not only Al Partner certified instructors at the express way. Also Steve certified a group of Brazilians just in one week by himself. And what about Villa Del Rosa´s IEC course two years ago? Three of those instructors were certified by Steve, including his wife by INTD. To let you know more about what´s going on here in Mexico, German Yanez just finished his book about cave diving and he, that is the only course director for the Mexican Ferderation of diving is introducing the cave program and certifing the first cave instructors by who knows by what standards. I am a certified diver since 1987 and have been living in the area for 8 years now. I work for different dive shops and not too long ago we used to go to the cenotes without alot of problems. In fact, I used to take people in without my cave certification. But it seems that for us it´s a long way to learn because there´s always somebody that for economical reasons change the sport of diving with political problems. Steve, I tried to contact you for quite some time and I´ve even given you my email address to reply. Are you really concerned about cave diving or is it just the money? diving program and certifing the new instructors by these standards, not by the standards of the other associations.
