Connie,

What exactly was "incorrect" about my post regarding the DeRosa's =
control over Vaca Ha?

What's really incorrect here Connie is your "smoke screen" attempt to =
obfuscate the truth of what happened to that cave, and who is really =
responsible. Shame on you for attempting to lay the blame on some poor =
Mexican farmer. Your spin would make the Clinton's proud. Why don't you =
post the complete and true story of this "private transaction" the =
DeRosa's had with the landowner? Since you chose to post your rhetoric =
publicly, please answer the following related questions:

Whose idea was it to create this new cenote? Old "Don" Camillo Solice =
Acosta? Yeah sure......
Who financed this ill-fated attempt to enlarge the surface area of the =
pool? Could that be the basis of the DeRosa's "private transaction" you =
mention?
Whose installed the lock on the gate you described as just being "in =
place at the time"? Did it appear magically?
Who would have controlled access, charged fees, and thereby benefited =
financially from this newly created cenote had the dredging been =
successful? Were they going to sell hot dogs and beer there too?
Who is responsible for the attempt to eliminate public access to a cave =
that has long been accessible to all cavers?
Were they going to rename it Vaca Ha Pon De Rosas?

This sort of greedy crap really pisses me off! While your at it Connie, =
explain the rationale of replacing the existing line arrows in the =
Yucatan caves with DeRosa's brightly stamped "Aquatech" arrows. Couldn't =
be self-serving advertising could it? Nah I didn't think so.=20

Connie did you read Harry Averill's article in last summers NACD Journal =
documenting the damage he's witnessed over the past few years to the =
Yucatan cave systems from the inexperienced and/or infrequent cave =
divers? How many students and semi-annual cavers do you and the DeRosas =
take into the caves at one time on your mule-train trips? Do you help =
remove the broken stalactites from their manifolds after the dives?

As Matt London posted, "Destruction and defacement of these caves in the =
interest of profit is a crying shame" I couldn't agree more!

Sincerely pissed off, I remain yours truly,

JR Gordon

"Just got back to states and checked archives. Your information was
correct...the property owner of Vaca Ha, "Don" Camillo Solice Acosta,
had at one time dug up the property believing he could enlarge the
surface pool. He has discontinued that attempt now, and the jungle is
replenishing itself. However, the cement collar of the old well is
a memory. =20

Incorrect info on the archives was that the DeRosa's "control" the site.
Last spring, Don Camillo and the DeRosas entered into a private business =

transaction, and a combination lock was in place at that time. Their
business transaction was completed, and the key lock is controlled by
the owner. ALL divers pay 50 NP to the property owner to dive VacaHa."

"Talk to the DeRosa's, they control the cenote. Last spring they even =
had =3D
their own padlock on the gate. We waited at the gate over an hour while =
=3D
there was a DeRosa van inside. Finally the old rancher to showed up and =
=3D
let us in. The DeRosa's DM/tour guide told us we had to pay them to =3D
dive. Yeah sure! We paid the rancher and dove.
JR Gordon"
