Two divers swimming around at 150' in open water, enjoying the = sites and failing to monitor their dwindling air supply, until I showed = one diver he only had 900 PSI left, then had to literally drag the = second diver back towards the surface, who insisted that everything was = alright, even after I had showed him that he had only 700 PSI left. = Clear-headed and thinking straight? I think not! 2. A diver who bragged how great he was on air past 200', then went = into such a stupor at 140', that it took 2 of us to drag up back towards = the surface. Clear-headed and thinking straight? Not hardly! Tom Mount may be good on air at 170'. So am I, under good diving = conditions, but that doesn't mean I keep doing it on a regular basis. I = made some pretty idiotic air dives back in the late 80's and early 90's, = including one off Andros Island to 310' that almost got me killed.=20 We now have the benefit of EANx and Trimix to make the deeper dives = more safely, and with a lot less decompression obligation, so why the = need to continue to make air dives to 200' and beyond? By the way, the current depth record on air is 510'(somebody = correct me if I'm wrong). Anyone would have to be real idiot to try and = beat that!
