Tim, how did you like Rennaker's rec that a cave student should complete a 1500 foot solo cave dive in order to get certified? The problem with Rennaker is that he is too stupid to breathe, in my opinion, the problem with the NACD is that it is run by instructors who border on mutant congnetital ignoramusitis, and the problem with cave diving is too mas all of the above. The CDS is a ditto, and IANTD requirements don't measure up to being one of "Jerry's Kids", in my opinion. Cave diving used to be taught in the "pass it on" and "mentor" mode. Parker Turner took nine months to train me. There are too many instructors, too many of them trying to make a job of it, and of those only a handful who really dive, like the GUE guys, and are qualified in my opinion. Bill Mee and I were out diving the other day on a boat down here, and we watched an instructor teach a student, and I could not believe what a great job she was doing. I asked her what shop she taught out of, thinking I sould send people to her, and it turned out she is a 777 pilot for Delta who just teachses the kids in her neiborhood because she likes diving and wants them to learn it the right way. Then , by way of contrast, we have the Renakers. A crying shame, and those who are promoting this stroke need a good kick in the ass, along with the whole NACD for putting that slop in their magazine. Good call by me to bail out of that organization completely a while back, great call by Jablonski, great call by Gavin, etc. You can't fix stupid.
