In particular, please take the time to read Jarrod Jablonski's
"Evolution of DIR Principles", which addresses each of your 
concerns in detail.  I see you've already gotten a couple of 
responses about what's wrong with the config you describe, and
those responses were correct.  However, JJ's article adds the
details of what's *right* with the alternative -- DIR.  Combine 
this information, and hopefully the choice will be clear to you.  
If not, keep asking... it really does make sense.
