John,
I'm trying to find a mentor. No luck so far. Been turned down
because I live in FL and directed someone else's way. Well I was turned
again because the really good ones don't have time for me and once again
I've been directed someone else's way. UGH, this is really frustrating.
How do I find a dive buddy? Who does have time for me AND is willing to
dive with me in FL on August 7th?!?

Help Please,
Christina

Christina,

A lot of us were trained by morons. Ask Trey, both Bill Mee and I
had to be retrained from the ground up to be at all useful.
However, we didn't do this by paying an instructor for retraining.
What would I do with another c-card? We essentially apprenticed
ourselves. One learns fastest by diving with someone that has
greater knowledge and skill. This doesn' have to a formal
instructor/student scenario. Find somebody that dives DIR and dive
with them.
