Perhaps I'm looking at this whole concept wrong, or ...  Wouldn't the
better idea be to just sell this reg and buy one that doesn't require
special hoses and has a second stage that you can't readily take apart
for cleaning.  That one move will now allow you to use that readily
available 7' hose, will not require a relief valve and will allow you
to clean any debris from the second stage.  What am I missing here? 
Sounds like treating the symptoms and not the cause.

Cobbling, eh?  I like that.
