Subject: Hydrogen Deco tidbits
To: cavers@cavers.com
Hi all,

ran across this on the web and thought some folks might be interested.....

COMEX has been experimenting with hydrogen gas as a diluent.

The upshot was they were doing saturation dives on a helium mix at 200 meters
and then they would add hydrogen to get to depths of 260 for up to 8 hours
and the deco back to the 200 level would just be a slow 1 meter per second
ascent back to the 200 level.

They were finding that deco's could be 40 percent less than helium and they
think even higher percentage reductions would not be unreasonable.

Anyway here is the link for more info - about 5 pages of reading

I guess if helium is your friend then hydrogen is the cute blonde next door
with the free beers.

Hell, George Irvine could probably dive Wakulla on hydrogen with doing any
deco.

So, when Wakulla goes REALLY deep you guys still have on more deco trick to
pull out of your sleeve. No smokers for sure on those dives :)

Which reminds me, out of my own curiosity, are there any tunnels in Wakulla
that appear to head deeper than the approx 300 you WKPP guys dive? Any reason
to believe geology or hydrology wise that deeper sections should or shouldnt
be there?
