What I have done (not my idea, I just borrowed it) is to use bungees fixed
through the bottom holes 
in the backplate, assuming that you have a SS backplate.  I use a similar
method to fix a folding
flag to the side of the BP.
 
This keeps stuff close to the body, between the cylinders and the body NOT
below the cylinders,
 and less likely to cause problems with line. 
 
However on a recent GUE cave course it was suggested to remove the bungees
since the 
kit they were intended for was not necessary in the cave.
 
OMS and others do have a storage pouch that fits in the 'V' of the
backplate. Although I have not
had any trouble reaching from the bottom of the BP, I have not tried
reaching up into the 'V'.
 
To date I have not had any comfort problems due to the roll between my back
and the cylinders.
