Sheck gave it to the NSS and it is supposedly "managed" by the CDS. They have some set of "rules" for who dives there, probably involving some scheme of logged cave dives, like how many times you go from Pothole to Peacock like they do for "training". I believe Sheck went 10,800 in there, by himself, as per the usual since he was the only person from the old days who actually dove as opposed to talking about diving. Sheck went 10,400 in Chips Hole , also by himself, and did most of the long dives everywhere in the State . Too bad he died a few months after he joined the WKPP . His enthusiasm and energy kept me diving every weekend until he broke Rule Number One with Batman in Mexico. Cathedral is actually very "cavy". It is big, dark, and has all kinds of side tunnels with bizarre features, including cracks to the surface and odd mulilevel activity. The geology of the area and the farm activity ( as well as the Farm Animals ) keep it a rare dive. Obviously we could go toast the place in a day, but it is more fun to sit back and watch the big time "cave divers" do nothing with it but yap, yap, yap. Maybe the usdct could go give it a try with Cis Luanars and the $34,000 scooters, and show us all how it is done. This would be a good project for these guys to do before their Phen Phen prescriptions run out . If you dive it, let me suggest you mix heavy on the helium - you get turned around in there and you are not coming home. My gas in there would be 16 ox, 55 helium. If you go from Falmouth, you can use a first stage of something more like 30% ox and 50% helium and drop it at Sheck's house as you go by. It gets deeper after that, and a lot wierder. Also needs deep scooters. Also better check on the Falmouth diving restrictions - the goobers may have hosed that access by now, and have somebody guard your vehicle - not from the red necks , but from the other cave divers. If you go in at Sheck's it saves 3,000 feet, and you can deco with an overhead and troughs. Falmouth is open air deco. It is a neat looking entrance and a true "karst window" which goes back down a syphon after about 3000 feet of run. Joel Markwell wrote: > > What is the current status of Cathedral Canyon?
