Chris, the whole attitude out there is so wrong: gas is easier to dive , easier to learn, easier to breathe and far better in every respect than air. There is no depth for which air is the correct gas for diving. On the other hand, we have the Training Agency Paradox, how to extract the most amount of money in the most number of courses in the shortest amount of time while teaching nothing usefull wihtout regard for the enjoyment and well being of the student while pretending to be adhering to some "standard". For instance, what kind of moron teaches somebody rebreather when that person does not understand gases well enouh to dive them - the are only two answers in my opinion: IANTD and TDI. To make matters worse, and to show exactly where this mentality of deep air is coming from, this last fatality invoved a person who in fact had been diving gas for six years, but was taught to dive air on the rebreather, the subeject of Bill Mee's post. Why are we the only ones who can see this stupidity? Am I supposed to be nice to these idiots and not say anything? Training is so piss poor that Jablonski had to go start a real training agency to do it properly, and we have all of us having to help teach different classes - something none of us has the time to do, simply because there is a severe shortage out there of anyone who has any freaking idea what they are doing in this sport, thanks to the "training agencies". NAUI's Tim O' Leary has tried to put together a decent tech program , but is hampered by the legion of fat slobs who still want air diving and other crap as part of the program. Let me sugest that all of you deep air divers out there see if you can get into a Methadone program - it would be a lot safer, and a better buzz. chrisc@bc*.co*.nz* wrote: > > > Bill , I concur.
