I do not completely understand DIR, but I have been reading on the
Hogarthian Method. Now my question, first of many to come, What is wrong
with the Buel bladders, lage lift capacity wings(i.e. DiveRite
SuperWings) for Open water, deep diving(i.e. trimix dives). I can see
the drawbacks for cave, but not open water. The availability of a second
bladder as a back-up, in my mind is a good idea. Though I know many of
you advocate the use of a drysuit as a back-up and I know many who
oppose this, including most manufacturers of drysuits. Any comments, all
are welcome.

Thanks in advanced!
Alfred

As you speak of open water I may elaborate on Irvine's answer.

First, one of the Hogarthian (and DIR?) principles is "don't bring what you=
=20
don't need", so if you can make the dual bladder redundant (in the other=20
meaning of the word =3D 'overkill'), you can use something more simple "less=
=20
is best".

Second, as Irvine pointed out, overweighing youself leads to nothing but=20
complications.

Third, dual bladders have some inherent characteristics that make them=20
unfit for task loaded diving (of which technical diving is an example)=20
namely complexity and more drag. Dual bladders mean dual inflators which=20
lead to a higher risk of making a mistake and a more cluttered diver. A=20
more cluttered diver has a higher drag through the water to which the=20
increased size of the dual bladder BC contributes.

Forth, when trimix diving, a drysuit is typically used which gives you your=
=20
buoyancy redundancy. Dropping your light or a weight belt may also help you=
=20
in an emergency.

Hope this helps...

Hilsen (Rgds.),
