Apparently, the Physicist Henry W. Kendall was killed at Wakulla Spring diving with the USDCT. Henry Kendall was a principal investigator in the MIT/SLAC collaboration in the late 60's (also known as the "deep inelastic collision" experiment). This is a very famous experiment, and there were many difficulties interpreting the results. At the end of the day, this was the primary experiment that confirmed the existence of quarks. He was awarded the 1990 Nobel prize for his work. Evidently, he was also a scuba enthusiast. This is a major loss.
