Recently, (when I was a usdct diver) I was asked to be a evaluation =
diver for a usdct team of divers (another basin dive). The so-called =
purpose and scope of these dive's is for the divers to do a simulated =
run of the next days dive in front of a evaluator(one would think that =
they already knew how to dive). I was given some que cards with =
equipment failure scenarios to flash at the divers during the dive. The =
one thing I noticed about these cards is that they were all self =
survival oriented, no team work drills. So I made some team work cards =
up unannounced to the divers, and we went for a dive.

What I witnessed on that dive would have had even a basic open water =
diver in tears form laughter. All the drills I gave them were "team work =
survival" oriented, and they failed every single one with flying colors. =
I saw air share drills that took any were from 2 to 5 minutes to =
execute, and for the team to get back underway. (you can't even pass a =
"intro cave" cave class with that). On the first lap around the 500, =
foot course, one diver was a minute and a half ahead of his buddies (no =
team their). One diver lost the scooter he was towing and didn't even =
notice it for two laps, another diver lost the diver he was towing in a =
out of air situation, and didn't even notice it for a good 75 to 100 =
feet. And why was the out of air diver in the rear???? The only diver =
who had long hoses on both oc bailout bottles was borrowing my rig =
set-up (which has 10' hoses), or else he would have been diving short =
hose(s) on both of his oc bail out bottles like the other two. If =
anybody believes that these are world class explorers, then you are also =
invited to my wedding with my bride to be, Demi Moore, or was that =
Sharon Stone, Damm, I can't remember which one I dumped.

Perhaps the scariest part about the whole ordeal was when I gave my =
assessment to Stone, and told him that they do not have "team survival" =
capabilities, and that they managed to kill themselves "as a team" over =
a half dozen times in less than a half hour and needed allot more =
practice as a "team" before they would be ready. Stones verdict, "their =
ready to go", and they did, the very next day.=20
